Gandhi

Gandhi One of my dearest wish is to stop finding faults in other people, and love them as they are. Because, as such I find myself highly intolerant and in search of loopholes in philosophies and personalities. One person who’s never given me any chance to criticize is … the hero himself … Mahatma Gandhi.

Am I making it sound like he’s one of my friends?

Whatever I know about him is a result of my preparation of the Wardha exam I sat in last year, which required me to read his biographies and other books written by him. I was hooked, and continued reading about him even after the exam. Anyways, that’s just too insufficient to know about a person of the grandeur of Gandhi.  Gandhi was more than just flesh and bone. He exemplified self-determination, self-confidence and the love-all attitude. He had strong opinions; opinions about things big and small. He used to say if you cannot control your palate, you cannot control anything. He performed umpteen diet experiments on himself, and formulated an ideal diet for an Indian. Not for nothing was he called a Mahatma. He had his roots firmly blanketed in spirituality. I won’t go into his political view, that’s clearly not my cuppa.

See, I don’t agree with some of his ideologies (as in spirituality and nationalism). But that’s no reason Gandhi’s splendor should diminish one bit for me. I adore him unconditionally. Indian Idol!

I find many people around me who take great pleasure in condemning Gandhi and his ways. For me, they are nothing but gossip-mongers, as nobody has been able to convince me with any serious argument! I find them similar to those people who believe in God. Convince me, and I’m all yours!

Anyways, since I’m home and since it’s Martyr’s Day, I’m proud that I did this bit for Gandhi.

BAPU…we are all proud of him…and i guess this little mind work of yours is an ode to the great man… and since i have the opportunity id like to just pen down my views on an issue which has bothered me since ive learnt to have a mind of my own…
mohandas karamchand gandhi…from a simple boy to a barrister to a simple man…but a man who GAVE US OUR INDEPENDENCE…again a simple man ..great ideas…and a will stronger than the mightiest force on this planet..yes that him i guess..
but my question… can the credit for our independence be awarded solely to him? what about sardar patel, netaji , shaheed bhagat singh and so many more???what about them…they too lived and died for their country…they too were simple people wid great ideas…they too had a will so strong and a love for their country so pure.,..THEN why are THEY the unsung heroes….
my issues and my arguement is not against the mahatma…he is and will be that forever MAHATAMA for generations to come…my issue is that the unsung heroes are the people who too deserve if not complete but a little of our respect of our love and of our tears…i dont know…poeple out there might just not agree wid me completely but im sure doc yu too believe sumwhere that im true??isnt it??

    Miss Doc,

I agree wholly these ppl deserve as much a respect as Gandhi. Imagine that independence was snatched when full 100 percent of commitment was achieved. It is of course practically not possible for Gandhi to have given that full 100 percent…these ppl contributed their important bits in their own way.

But m not at all a nationalist… i’m not lying when i say that India, or any other country for that matter, appears very un-inspiring to me. It doesn’t induce an adrenaline rush in me.

I love Gandhi for reasons TOTALLY unrelated to nationalism.

And, hey, i’m a little surprised to find an NRI feeling so much for india’s heroes! I’d like to talk more about that!
